Properties
- Thermoplastic filament extruded layer by layer
- Wide material range (PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, Nylon)
- Good strength-to-cost for functional parts
- Visible layer lines; post-processing optional
- Infill and wall settings tune stiffness and weight
Best applications
- Functional prototypes and fit checks
- Jigs, fixtures, and brackets
- Enclosures and mounts for electronics
- Low-volume production of plastic parts
- Education and university research models
Cost
Typically the most cost-effective process for mid-size plastic parts. Price scales with material weight, quality, and quantity — with steep volume discounts on larger orders.
Lead time
Usually 7–10 business days including free USA shipping. Rush options available on request.
Design guidelines
- Minimum wall thickness ~1.2 mm (prefer 1.5–2 mm)
- Avoid unsupported overhangs steeper than ~45°
- Add fillets at stress concentrations
- Design clearances of 0.3–0.5 mm for mating parts
- Orient critical surfaces to reduce stair-stepping
